So I tore my rotator cuff pretty bad working at a hardware store just outside Rhinebeck, and my doctor says I'll probably need surgery but I'm still waiting on the insurance company to approve it. What's confusing me is that I keep hearing different things from coworkers about what kind of payments I'm supposed to get while I'm out – some say it's a percentage of my average weekly wage, others say they'll only cover medical bills and nothing else if I can still do light duty somewhere. I've been trying to look up the actual Workers Compensation Benefits in Rhinebeck NY but every website gives a different formula and I'm not sure if things like physical therapy, travel to appointments, or even mileage count toward the total. Has anyone here actually received a breakdown from their employer or insurance that made sense? I'm trying to figure out if I should push for surgery sooner rather than later or if waiting might affect how much I get approved for. Really don't want to end up back at work too early and make the tear worse just because I was scared about money.
