My Honest Take on Electrical Estimating Programs After Years of Trying Them All - joeparker77 - 03-10-2026 So I've been wanting to put this out there for a while because I feel like there's a lot of misleading information floating around about electrical estimating programs and what they can actually do for your business. I've been in this space long enough to have tried a bunch of them and I think I can offer some pretty honest perspective that most people won't give you. First off let me just say that not every program is built the same way and that matters more than people realize. Some are designed by software developers who don't really understand the electrical trade and it shows. The terminology is off, the workflow feels awkward, and you spend more time figuring out the software than actually estimating. The best electrical estimating programs are the ones clearly built by people who actually understand how electrical contractors think and work. The second thing I want to address is price. Expensive does not always mean better in this space. I've seen contractors shell out serious money for bloated programs loaded with features they never touch while missing the basics that actually matter on a daily basis. Affordable software that does the core job well will always beat an overpriced platform that overwhelms you every time you open it. Lastly and this is the big one — support matters enormously. The program you choose should come with real human support, proper training resources, and a team that actually picks up the phone. Because no matter how good the software is, you're going to have questions. What separates great electrical estimating programs from average ones is what happens after the sale. Would love to hear what programs you've used and what your experience has been — drop it below! |
